Serving in the local Church is an important step in one’s spiritual journey. The reason is that it allows the individual to serve something greater than himself. Everyone wants to make an impact and be a positive influence on others. Jesus Himself said that He did not come to be served, but to serve the good of others. Jesus provided the model of a true servant. This is why it is important to follow the example of Jesus by exhibiting this same heart of service and dedication to the Kingdom of God.
It is the act of serving that results in the blessing of both the individual and the Church. In fact, the Church functions properly when the members serve together to achieve a common vision. The Apostle Paul explained it this way – “from Him the whole body, joined and held together by every supporting ligament, grows and builds itself in love, as each part does its work” (Ephesians 4:16). In essence, the Church is the Body of Christ. The body always functions from a position of strength when every joint and member fulfills its part. When you make an eternal investment by volunteering your time and talent in your local Church, you will discover the key to unlocking a life of influence and change.
